Memorial Day, a US federal holiday observed every year on the last Monday of May, remembers those who died while serving in our country's armed forces. It originated as Decoration Day following the Civil War, as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of those who died in battle with flowers. This tradition was eventually extended to honor all Americans who died while serving in the Military, and continues to this day. The Portland area has several Memorial Day events to honor those who died while serving. Check out our guide to the Portland areas' Memorial Day Events and Parades below.
