Our 5 Favorite New Christmas Movies

By Larysa Haley, Editor and Publisher of Macaroni Kid Portland December 23, 2020

We love snuggling up on the couch after opening the presents on Christmas Day and binge watch Christmas movies. The classic movies are always fun (can we call Home Alone “classic”?), but there are a few new releases they made our must-watch list.

Here are our favorite Christmas movies that were released in the last few years:

1. The Christmas Chronicles & The Christmas Chronicles 2 (Netflix)

Christmas Chronicles is a story of a sister and a brother, Kate and Teddy, whose Christmas Eve plan to catch Santa Claus on camera turns into an unexpected journey.

In the sequel, Kate and her step-brother-to-be Jack are on the mission to save North Pole and Christmas,

2. Jingle Jangle (Netflix)

We are big Broadway fans, and we surely miss watching the live shows. Jingle Jangle gave us a much needed “fix”.

This musical is about a genius toy maker, betrayed by his apprentice, and how his granddaughters helped him find a new hope.

3. Godmothered (Disney+)

Do you like Elf? How about Enchanted? If you answered "yes" to both, you are going to love Godmothered.

In this comedy,  Eleanor, a young, inexperienced fairy godmother-in-training, decides to show the world that people still need fairy godmothers.

4. Noelle (Disney+)

In this movie, Kris Kringle’s daughter is full of Christmas spirit and holiday fun, but wishes she could do something “important” like her beloved brother Nick, who will take over from their father this Christmas.

You could probably guess how this movie ends but this won't prevent you from enjoying watching Noelle's (played by Maine native Anna Kendrick) adventures.

5. Klaus (Netflix)

I saved our favorite movie for last. We absolutely adore Klaus.

Somehow we missed it when it first released last November and we accidentally stumbled upon it this summer. It was actually nominated for Oscar last year.

In this animated movie, Jasper, an entitled and selfish postal academy student, is sent to an island near North Pole to establish a post office. There he befriends a reclusive toy maker (who could be it be?)
