Hello my dear Macaroni Kid Portland readers. It has been a very challenging few weeks on my end of things, with family health and personal health issues, and now with the global health crisis, things are even more stressful. My sincerest apologies that you haven't received a newsletter from me in a couple of weeks. I hope that you were still able to Find Your Family Fun over at the website: portland.macaronikid.com.
Now, let's chat pandemic. This is a very uncertain time, and things are changing by the day, if not the hour, with the uncertainty of this coronavirus and the reaction to it, as health officials and the government try to slow its spread.
As I am sure you are aware, Greater Portland area events are being canceled and postponed. As it is extremely difficult for me to be constantly on my computer updating and/or deleting events on the website, please, please verify any event details with the venue before you attend, and it is especially important to do so right now as events may be canceled with little to no notice.
Macaroni Kid Portland will do its best to update its calendar as cancellations come in, but, as I mentioned, this will be very difficult to stay on top of. As of right now all known canceled events have been removed from the March calendar. This could change, of course, and will be monitored going into April. Please know that libraries in Scarborough, Westbrook, Portland and Cape Elizabeth have suspended their storytimes, etc. until further notice and South Portland Public Library is closed; Scarborough Community Services just announced that all extracurricular activities are either canceled or postponed, and all upcoming PSO and Merrill Auditorium events are canceled or postponed as of right now.
If you hear of any event cancellations not reflected on the Macaroni Kid Portland events calendar, please reach out to me at kimberlyf@macaronikid.com and I will do my best to update the calendar.
Due to this commonality of last minute changes, no events will be posted below in this week's newsletter. You will find, though, many articles that will help you and your family navigate these unprecedented (in most of our lifetimes) events.
Please watch the CDC and the Maine Department of Health for the latest news.
And, of course, please take care of yourselves and your family. (But leave some toilet paper for the rest of us.)
My very best,
Kim
