A New Year's Note from Kim, Your Mac Kid Portland Publisher (1/3/20)

By Kimberly French, Editor and Publisher of Macaroni Kid Portland December 23, 2019

Wow, wow, wow! A new week, a new month, a new year, A NEW DECADE! Time to embrace the goodness of last year and carry it with you into this new year, set aside the mistakes of last year, but hang on to the lessons learned, and move forward full speed ahead. Tomorrow's never a promise, so do what you have to do to make today a great one!

Ok, ok, enough cliches for the moment. Let's get real. You're probably exhausted from the holidays. Your house might be a disaster. You may have been all too excited to put your kids on the bus, and you'd probably rather be checking into a hotel right now to take a break. I get it. Boy, do I get it! But, to get mushy on you, think about the memories you made over the past couple of weeks. Think about all the smiles and laughter that exhaustion created. Your kids might not remember the exact gifts they received, the crafts they made or the adventures they went on in 20 years, but they'll remember the feeling of being with you and your family and the warmth that you created. Kudos to you!

Now, go take that much-needed bath or sip that much-coveted coffee and take a bit of time for yourself to reflect on all that you accomplished. Then, continue being the awesome you that you are!

I urge you to consider the year ahead in terms of taking care of yourself and making memories with your family. When you put things into those two categories, they become much simpler. And can't we all benefit from simplifying our lives a little?

Have a great week, everyone. Enjoy your macaroni!

Stay humble and kind.

Cheers!
