Dining in a Fish Shack | Batson River Brewing in Kennebunk

By Larysa Haley, Editor and Publisher of Macaroni Kid Portland January 20, 2021

The first item on our 2021 Maine bucket list was to dine in one of the restaurants that found a creative way to keep customers warm outside of the dining rooms. And we are happy to say we crossed it off last week! We were able to snatch a last-minute fish shack reservation at Batson River Brewery & Distilling in Kennebunk.

You can reserve one of the private, heated, and cozy fish shacks for $20 per 90-minute reservation.

Each shack seats six guests, and they are available on a first-come, first-served basis for walk-ins, but it is strongly recommended reserving one in advance. Reservations are made via Open Table. When I first checked, there was no availability until the end of February, but I have set up an alert if anything opened up, and, lo and behold, I got a reservation for the very next day.

The shacks are super cozy and very warm!

There is no kids menu, so this restaurant will be more suitable for older children. And it is absolutely perfect for a date night!

We opted for poutine (if there is poutine on a menu, you bet we are ordering it!), crushed potatoes, and fried chicken.

And chocolate mousse for dessert. Yum!

We enjoyed our afternoon out at Batson River tremendously: dining out gave us some sense of normalcy and we felt very safe doing so in our own space. Plus I got extra mommy points for surprising the kiddo with this unique dining set up.
